BIO
Zaity Salman is a screenwriter working and living on Gadigal Land of the Eora Nation
(Sydney). Zaity writes across a variety of genres including historical, sci-fi, dark
comedy, and mystery.
Zaity recently completed a six-week internship at Studio Canal Australia, supported
by Scripted Ink during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and Market. Working with one
of the world’s largest distributors, Zaity received hands-on experience writing
coverage and development notes on dozens of scripts. She also gained great insight
and understanding on marketing, pathways to audience and film financing.
In 2022, Zaity reached the Top 10 shortlist for the NSW Emerging Writer’s Incubator.
She was later selected to take part in the inaugural First Break NSW program. Since
then, Zaity has worked as a notetaker on television projects for Werner Film
Productions, Every Cloud Productions, Matchbox Productions, and the SBS Digital
original series, Appetite, produced by Karen Radyzner.
Zaity won the 2019 Cambridge University’s Watersprite Film Festival award for ‘Best
Short Screenplay’ for her script, The Body of Women. Zaity wrote the screenplay for
short documentary Quetta Brown that played a several festivals and won the 2022
SydFest Independent Film Jury Award.
Zaity is drawn to complex characters and exciting ideas, and loves finding ways to
explore both in her storyworlds.
Zaity is currently the Scripted Development Coordinator at Fremantle Media
Australia.
